The 2020 African University Ranking (UniRank) has ranked Kenyatta University number 16 of the top 200 recognized higher-education institutions in Africa. In Kenya, it is position two after University of Nairobi. The ranking measures popularity of the featured universities. Universities ranked must meet the following criteria:
- They must be chartered, licensed and/or accredited by the appropriate higher education-related organization in each country
- They must offer at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees T(master or doctoral degrees)
- They must deliver courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format
The aim of the ranking body is to provide a non-academic League Table of the top Universities in Africa based on valid, unbiased and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web intelligence sources rather than data submitted by the Universities themselves.
