Reference management tools

Manual referencing and citation can be very tedious and wastes a lot of your valuable time. Zotero and Mendeley Reference Management Software are free softwares help you cite and manage your references automatically. This means that you do not need to worry about the commas and the fullstops in your reference list or bibliography.

Tips on making your research visible for more citations

Here are a few basic tips on improving your citation count and making your research visible:

  1. Create a Google scholar profile. Remember to change the default for updating list of articles from automatic to “don’t automatically update my profile” This option gives you the opportunity to vet the suggested articles before adding them to your profile. When Google Scholar updates your profile automatically, there is the real risk that your profile may include papers you have not authored.
  2. Other platforms that will make your research more visible are:
  3. Get an author ID. This helps you showcase your research from one account and track your citation counts. Examples of author ids are ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID), and ResearcherID . The great thing is that once you create an account in either of the two the data can be shared.
  4. Submit your research to the library (library@ku.ac.ke) for uploading to the Kenyatta University Institutional Repository.

Remember to keep your account profiles updated.

Nb: Your profile should be as complete as possible. Use your corporate email and get your affiliation right!
