Kenyatta University has been ranked as one of the best performing university out of 75 Universities and Research Institutions in Kenya, according to latest Alper-Doger Scientific Index, also known as “AD Scientific Index ranking”.  One hundred and fifty five (155) researchers from Kenyatta University made it to the AD scientific ranking with five (5) of them clinching the coveted top 50 rankings nationally. The five scientists in order of ranking are Prof Vincent Onywera who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Innovation and Outreach, Prof John Orodho, Prof Sumesh Chhabra, Prof Eliud Njagi and Prof Christopher Shisanya. 

Prof Vincent Onywera was ranked no 7 in Kenya and 319 in Africa having attained a total H-Index of 48.   He has published widely in high reputable journals. Prof John Orodho who ranked no 32 nationally was recognized for his contribution in education, research and statistics having attained a H-Index of 32.

The “AD Scientific Index” is based on the scientific performance and productivity of individual scientists. Other outstanding researchers in the top 10 position in Kenyatta University are Prof Jayne Mugwe, Prof Monicah Mucheru-Muna, Prof Ambrose Jagongo, Prof Michael Muita Gicheru and Prof Paul Okemo. 

Kenyatta University continues to ensure sustained research activities through several multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral collaborative grants between the university and other research institutions. The university has also invested heavily in research infrastructure and building capacity of its researchers in grant proposal writing and publishing.
