How can I register for Off- campus e-resource access?
Provide your corporate email address at the main campus Library Information desk and details of your PF / Reg. No. or send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. The same corporate email address will be used for receiving automatic alerts on borrowing or returning of library items.
How can I register for corporate email?

Before trying to connect to eduroam, ensure you get your login credentials from IT Support team at support.ku.ac.ke

How can I find a research work on a certain topic?
Visit our library catalog. From there click ‘Advanced search’. Under ‘Search for’ enter your search then scroll down to the ‘Limit to any of the following’ section. In that section tick ‘Thesis’. After that scroll down and click search. This search will show you the various research work done in KU that relate to your title.
I would like to know more about the library account for students. I have often seen this Log in box whenever I open the Library catalog. How I can log in such account.
Logging in the library catalog is temporarily suspended. Searching for information materials in the library catalog is however still possible without logging in.
What do i do to renew a book?
We currently don’t have this service due to the high demands for the available copies.
Must you have library cards when borrowing books if you have a smart ID card?
Once you have you smart school ID card come to the library and register with us so that you may be able to borrow books.
I have noticed there are some books that come with DVDs that contain the entire notes on the same book. Can students ever get access to these DVDs?
Yes, just note its call number and request for it from the respective short loan counter.
Can I access past papers online?
The following are the steps in accessing KU past papers.
NB: Past papers can only be accessed using KU intranet (in campuses) or using the off-campus e-resource access link
- click the past papers link on the Library Catalogue or the Library website.
- On the resultant window, choose your school
- From the resulting search window type in either the course title or course code then press ‘BEGIN SEARCH’
The past papers page does not usually open.
As a KU policy past papers are only accessible either while using computers within KU campuses or while using a KU hotspot (KU intranet). Past papers can therefore not be downloaded from the cyber or other internet connection.
How do i get the usernames and passwords required to access online journals and books?
Visit one of our libraries either KU main campus or any other KU campus to be issued with the relevant usernames and passwords.
I am a student from outside Kenya and am interested in some thesis from your institution. Is it possible that you send me a .pdf version or the contacts of the author?
Our thesis and dissertation are available online at our Institutional Repository . However, we are still digitizing those which are still in abstract form.

How do i access KU wireless internet?
Ensure your laptop WI-FI is turned on and connected to a network with a prefix ‘LIB’. Signal strength vary depending on your location within the library. Connect to the network with the highest signal strength.
To input proxy settings follow the following procedure.
- Open Internet Explorer or any browser
- Select Tools >> Internet Options >> Connections >>LAN Settings
- check ‘Automatically detect settings’
- Uncheck (if its checked) ‘Use Automatic Configuration Script’
- Uncheck ‘Use a proxy server for your LAN’
- Press ‘OK’ then ‘OK’ again
All other browsers will automatically work once you have these setting in Internet Explorer. If you are using other operating systems other that windows, seek assistance from the library information desk.
What’s the process & requirement for registering with the library in order to start using the library services?
For a KU student to use the library, they need to come with their student ID. In a case where you don’t have one you can come with your national ID and admission letter, until the student ID is provided to you. The only service you cannot access without your student ID is borrowing of library materials.
How can CISCO students access the library as they are normally not issued with School ID cards which are needed so as to access the library?
CISCO students can access the library using their Cisco registration forms. They can however not borrow books.
How many hours or minutes should people take in the computer room?
Each user is given 2hours to use the computer labs. You should first register to use the computers and you can also book for space after every 2hrs from 9 a.m.
How can I get a job in the library?
The way to get a job with us is to send your application and CV to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) or drop it at the HR office and when there is a vacancy the university will contact you.
Is it possible to get an attachment in the library?
Attachments in the library are applied through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) office. However if you are a library and information science student from KU, you apply through the department’s chairman.
