MyLittleBigThing University SDGs innovation challenge

mlbt-logo   In line with Kenya’s development goals, MK-Africa – in partnership with Strathmore Business School and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, South Africa (CISL SA) – is running an SDGs challenge targetting university students across the country.  Inspired by Wangari Maathai’s ‘little thing’ of planting trees, the competition aims to come up with the kind of simple ideas that will have a big impact.  The competition is challenging university students to develop simple ideas that are commercially viable that will contribute to the implementation of the SDGs in Kenya. Running from May 2017, the competition targets undergraduate students from universities and polytechnics across Kenya. For more information click here

Understanding author rights through Sherpa Romeo

indexThe Kenyatta University Post Modern Library has been making effort to profile the university’s research products through archiving and uploading our researchers’ published articles to our Institutional Repository. One of the means we employ in identifying the research papers is through harvesting the articles from the internet. Where the full text is not available, we may request the author to provide one. However, often times the author is not sure whether they can share or archive the full text version. To find out the dos and don’t’s pertaining to your author rights, visit the Sherpa Romeo site. The site summarises open access self-archiving permissions and conditions of rights that are given to you as an author by different journals and publishers. The journal may for example allow you to archive the pre-print and post-print or publisher’s version/PDF while another may only allow archiving of your pre-print (ie pre-refereeing) article version. Other journals allow you to archive your article after a defined embargo period. The respective journal website may spell out these rights. The publishing license agreement you sign with the publisher also stipulates your rights. The library verifies your archiving rights before uploading your article in our repository.
