BAIFA E-Learning Service

Bibliotheca Alexandrina Information for Africa (BAIFA) is providing free online Information Literacy (IL) and library professional development training courses for researchers, librarians and information professionals, in addition to other tutorials on research, publishing, and other areas provided by Elsevier. The Library also hosts a link to Free Open Access Resources. According to BAIFA, all training courses do not need any specific requirements except familiarity with using computer and internet. Enroll to the E-Learning Service for free on any or all of the training Courses and submissions as listed below:

LCD Desktop Magnifiers in the Special Needs Section

Kenyatta University has acquiredĀ  two new Merlin LCD desktop magnifiers for use in the Post Modern Library; to be used by students and staff with low vision.

The library uses assistive technology such as CCTVs to magnify print for low vision ; Braille machines for the totally blind; embossers for transcription of print into Braille; JAWS(Job Access with Speech) and NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) screens readers which enable the visually impaired to search/listenĀ  to information, headphones; talking books; magnifying lenses; scanners; calculators and Braille books.

The University has been rated among the best and has the highest number of students with special needs due to its commitment to cater for their needs. This is evidenced by the provision of shuttle services, sign language interpreters, resource center for transcription of examination and CAT scripts and an annual Disability day focusing on the welfare of these persons in the University.

 

IOP Publishing Offering 5 Free E-books

Discover the new Free Collection of E-Books from the Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing. IOP has launched a pilot project of free collection of E-Books called Physics World Discovery. According to the publisher, the first five publications from the collection are available now to read for free, and will remain free forever, as will all those produced within the 2017 pilot period. Kenyatta University has an active subscription to The Institute of Physics (IOP) Journals.
